State Growth Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Action Plan 2023 Highlighted Achievements

  • Senior leadership supported our LGBTIQA+ community including attending the TasPride Walk.
  • Relationships strengthened with key organisations to ensure we are aware of and maintain best practice.
  • 9 graduates commenced as part of our commitment to youth employment.
  • Established an internship with UTAS leading to 6 students undertaking a one day a week placement for 13 weeks.
  • State Growth employees were strongly encouraged and supported to attend the Aboriginal Gathering 2023.
  • Calendar of Significant Events created and published. Several events promoted and celebrated including International Women’s Day, NAIDOC Week, Ramadan, Wear it Purple Day, R U OK Day, International Day of People with Disability.
  • State Growth employees and members of the Executive participated in the Walk for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Children.
  • New leave entitlements were introduced as a result of the wage negotiations in late 2022. Supporting resources and communications were developed and promoted to ensure employees were aware of the availability of Aboriginal cultural leave, gender affirmation leave and disability leave.
  • State Growth gained accreditation as a Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace with the Australian Breastfeeding Association. The accreditation recognises that State Growth provides time, space and a supportive environment for parents who combine work and breastfeeding.
  • State Growth is working towards being menopause friendly with a suite of supporting resources and a dedicated intranet space created. In 2024 we will continue to work to embed a culture in which talking about managing menopause symptoms is normalised.
  • Employees in one building have led an initiative to have period products in bathrooms where staff can donate and take as and when needed.
  • Members of the Women Supporting Women in Leadership Group have organised two successful lunchtime forums which attracted a total of 160 people attending in person across 3 locations and on-line.
  • The Workplace Adjustment Procedure was reviewed and updated based on employee feedback. Additional supporting resources were developed.
  • The Aboriginal Employee Resource Group was established and began meeting regularly.
  • The review of the performance management processes resulted in an increased emphasis on discussions relating to diversity, equity and inclusion (D,E&I),  respectful behaviours and employee needs in regards flexibility.
  • Members of the Executive attended Unconscious Bias training delivered by Kind Enterprises.
  • Inclusive language facts sheets were published on the intranet and promoted to all employees to support the department’s Respectful Workplace Behaviour Policy.
  • Recruitment processes continue to improve in terms of accessibility.
  • The governance of the D,E&I function was reviewed, and Terms of Reference for all D,E&I related groups reviewed and updated to better articulate how the groups interact with each other and how they drive the actions of the D,E&I Strategy.
  • The Gender Affirmation Policy and supporting resources were developed and promoted.
  • The D,E&I function has worked closely with the Strategy, Policy and Coordination division in the development of the State Growth Disability Access and Inclusion Plan to ensure employee needs were considered and included in the plan.
  • In response to employee identification of an accessibility issue, several doors to toilets and meeting rooms in Salamanca Place have been installed with push button opening. This allows for dignified access for people who cannot open the heavy doors.
  • Jobs Tasmania sponsored the Multicultural Council of Tasmania’s 2023 Multicultural Tasmania Employers Conference (MTEC2023). Employees also attended the conference as participants.
