Working alongside industry associations and tourism businesses the Tourism and Hospitality Support Unit (THSU) has a primary focus on encouraging investment in quality visitor infrastructure and building capability, capacity and community.
The THSU play an integral part in the delivery of the T21 – the Tasmanian Visitor Economy Strategy 2015 - 2020 which was developed through a strategic partnership between the Tasmanian Government and the Tasmanian tourism industry represented by the Tourism Industry Council Tasmania. This strategy outlines how the two partners are now working collaboratively to grow Tasmania’s visitor numbers, enable greater capital investment and create jobs.
The strategy recognises the importance of supporting the supply side challenges of a growing visitor economy including improving visitor engagement through the development of products and services that create memorable visitor experiences. Importantly the strategy also recognises the significance of aligning our workforce training with emerging workforce demands in order to create rewarding jobs and careers opportunities for Tasmanians.
Key actions identified in the strategy include:
- implementation of the Tasmanian Visitor Engagement Strategy
- encourage the development of new experiences that complement Tasmania’s competitive strengths
- work with industry to align workforce training with the emerging workforce demands of the visitor economy.
